How We're Qualified to Treat Cats
Dr. Beck-Ross and her veterinary team have had the privilege of meeting the unique medical needs of cats for years. We understand you can't treat cats as you would other species and that they require a special level of care. For example, we know most cats are apprehensive about being touched on their heads or upper bodies. That's why our West Grove veterinarian and her team take special care to move or adjust your cat on areas of its body that are less sensitive.
We also know that cats are obligate carnivores, and we won't recommend any pet food that contains vegetable matter. Additionally, our team is experienced in diagnosing cat-specific health problems so that you feel comfortable knowing our recommended treatment gets to the root cause of your pet's issue.
Helping Your Cat Feel Comfortable
At Penn Animal Hospital, we know that cats are hypersensitive animals and are prone to get overwhelmed in new or different environments. That's why our staff works hard to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere to help your cat feel at ease during its visit. Our examination rooms don't use harsh lighting, and our team speaks in a gentle tone to help even the most anxious cats feel calm. No matter what treatment or procedure your cat requires, our team will always be near your pet to provide comfort and assurance.
Our Quality Cat Veterinary Services
When you bring your pet to our West Grove pet veterinarian for its first visit, we'll conduct an extensive wellness exam. By looking at the condition of your pet's eyes, skin, fur, teeth, and gums, we can get a better sense of which of our veterinary services would be right for them. We'll outline our recommended services in your cat's personalized treatment plan. Our practice is more than happy to make any necessary adjustments to your pet's plan so that it fits your comfort level.
Our cat-centric veterinary services include, but are not limited to:
Preventive Examinations: Preventive exams provide our staff with the opportunity to examine your pet for any disease, illnesses, or other adverse health conditions. We recommend that you bring your cat in for preventive examinations at least once a year. However, the frequency of visits can depend on the age of your pet and its overall health condition. For example, older pets may require multiple preventive exams each year.
Vaccinations: At Penn Animal Hospital, we're proud to provide vaccinations for cats. Vaccinations are a valuable way to prevent your cat from contracting harmful viruses and diseases. There are two classifications for vaccinations: core vaccines and non-core vaccines. Core vaccinations are recommended for kittens and cats of all ages, which may include vaccines for rabies, feline panleukopenia, feline viral rhinotracheitis, and feline caliciviral disease. In comparison, non-core vaccinations may be for feline chlamydia and feline leukemia.
Spaying & Neutering: Our West Grove veterinarian has extensive experience performing spaying and neutering for cats. Although spaying and neutering refer to surgical sterilization, there are distinct differences between the two. For example, spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus, while neutering is the removal of your pet's testicles.
Teeth Cleanings: Your cat's smile plays a crucial role in its overall well-being. That's why we're proud to provide gentle teeth cleanings to help keep harmful plaque and tartar off the surface of your pet's teeth. Although we use anesthesia to put your pet under during a teeth cleaning, we follow strict safety guidelines from start to finish.
Emergency Veterinary Services: Our practice offers emergency services if your cat is dealing with a health emergency that can't wait until its annual checkup. We can assist you for problems including diarrhea and vomiting. You can rest assured that your cat is in good hands at our practice if it's dealing with a health emergency.
